Production photos of Oslo at the National Theatre released
The Tony Award-winning Oslo has transferred to the UK and is currently playing at the National Theatre before a stint on the West End at the Harold Pinter theatre, from September 30th. J T Rogers’ new play follows two maverick Norwegian diplomats through their quiet heroics which led to the groundbreaking Oslo Peace Accords. Globe announces casting for Rice’s Romantics Anonymous
Despite all the media attention around Michelle Terry’s appointment a few months ago, Emma Rice is going ahead with her production of new original musical Romantics Anonymous at Shakespeare’s Globe. The cast will be led by Carly Bawden and Dominic Marsh, the former of which starred in Rice’s Twelfth Night at the Globe earlier this year, whilst the latter starred in Kneehigh’s acclaimed Tristan & Yseult which also played at the Globe earlier this year. The rest of the cast comprises Marc Antolin, Philip Cox, Joe Evans, Natasha Jayetileke, Joanna Riding, Lauren Samuels and Gareth Snook. Romantics Anonymous plays at Shakespeare’s Globe from 20th October to 6th January.
Rehearsal photos released for Marianne Elliott’s Heisenberg: The Uncertainty Principle
Rehearsals for the premiere of Heisenberg: The Uncertainty Principle on the West End are well underway, directed by Marianne Elliott (Angels in America, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, War Horse). National Theatre’s Angels in America to transfer to Broadway
Marianne Elliott’s acclaimed National Theatre production of Tony Kushner’s Angels in America is reported to be transferring to Broadway in 2018 with many of its original cast. Andrew Garfield, Denise Gough, James McArdle, Nathan Lane, Amanda Lawrence, Susan Brown and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett will all reprise their roles from the recent National Theatre production. The run will last 18 weeks, from February 23rd 2018, with tickets going on sale on October 27th 2017. Read our review of Part One: Millennium Approaches here, and Part Two: Perestroika here.
National Theatre opens ballot for onstage seating for Network
Ivo Van Hove’s hotly anticipated production of Network, starring Bryan Cranston, will have a limited number of seats on the stage. The tickets will be available via ballot for £75 – £95 per person, including a full meal. Branded as ‘Foodwork’ the seats promise a truly immersive experience, placing you at the heart of Network’s action. The ballot is now open and will remain open until September 26th, click here for more info. An Entry Pass ballot for under 25s will be open from September 28th. Cranston will make his British stage debut at the Lyttleton Theatre in Network from November 4th.
John R. Wilkinson wins Young Vic’s Genesis Future Directors Award 2018
The Young Vic have crowned John R. Wilkinson as the winner of the Genesis Future Directors Award 2018. Wilkinson will direct a production of Winter by Jon Fosse in the Clare Theatre in February 2018, tickets are on sale now. For more info, click here.
Kevin Bishop and Jennifer Saunders join cast of Kathy Burke’s Lady Windermere’s Fan
The production of Lady Windermere’s Fan at the Vaudeville Theatre, directed by Kathy Burke, will be led by Samantha Spiro as Mrs Erlynne and Kevin Bishop as Lord Darlington, while Jennifer Saunders will guest star as the Duchess of Berwick. Spiro is best known for her Olivier Award-winning performance in Merrily We Roll Along at the Donmar Warehouse, whilst Bishop is known for his work on The Kevin Bishop Show as well as Peep Show. Jennifer Saunders will be returning to the West End for the first time in over twenty years following her BAFTA winning work as one half of comedy duo French and Saunders. Lady Windermere’s Fan will run from 12th January to 7th April 2017.
UK transfer of Hamilton delays opening on the West End
Lin Manuel-Miranda’s smash-hit hip-hop musical, Hamilton, has had its opening at the Victoria Palace Theatre delayed from November 21st to December 6th, cancelling 16 performances. Cameron Mackintosh has assured ticketholders for cancelled performances that Ticketmaster will be contacting them personally to reschedule tickets to other performances near the beginning of the run. It has been reported that the delay is due to the restoration and renovation works on the theatre taking longer than expected due to unforeseen complications.
New Howard Brenton play, The Shadow Factory, set to open new Southampton theatre
Samuel Hodges will direct The Shadow Factory by Howard Brenton in February 2018 as the inaugural production at new Southampton theatre, NST City. Set in the Battle of Britain in 1940, The Shadow Factory is about the destruction brought upon Southampton during the war. The Shadow Factory will run 16th February to 2nd March 2018.
Five Guys Named Moe extends run at Marble Arch
Five Guys Named Moe has officially extended its run until 14th February 2018. Ahead of its opening on September 14th 2017. it seems that Five Guys Named Moe will be something of a permanent installation on the corner of Hyde Park. Clarke Peters’ production is a revival of the 1990 musical, performed in the round. Later this week, critics will have their say on whether the production is a toe-tapping success or discordant flop.
The Play That Goes Wrong announces new tour and West End extension
It will soon be three years since Mischief Theatre’s smash-hit The Play That Goes Wrong first premiered on the West End. Having been founded by LAMDA graduates in 2008, Mischief Theatre have created an iconic production, winning an Olivier Award in 2014, and Tony Award in 2015 for their Broadway transfer. Now The Play That Goes Wrong has extended its run at the Duchess Theatre in London until September 2018 and will also go on a nationwide UK tour in 2018, beginning in Northampton on 4th January 2018.
Royal Court announces casting for upcoming season
Guillermo Calderón’s B and Chris Thorpe’s Victory Condition will be running in rep throughout October at the Royal Court. Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Paul Kaye, Sarah Niles and Danusia Samal will lead the cast of B, under the direction of Sam Pritchard. Meanwhile, Sharon Duncan-Brewster and Jonjo O’Neill will star in Victory Condition, directed by Royal Court Artistic Director Vicky Featherstone.
New six-hour Punchdrunk production to premiere in London
Iconic immersive theatre company Punchdrunk, creators of The Drowned Man and Sleep No More, will be debuting a new immersive production for an audience of just two at a time on September 26th. Entitled Kabeiroi, the experience takes place across various locations in London and will last six hours. Tickets will be available for £55 via a ballot, which is open now and will remain open until Sunday 10th September at 6pm. Kabeiroi will be performed until November 10th 2017.
